After owning five pairs of flex canvas, I bought a pair of Karst, actually own two now. One pair I use strictly for outdoor dirty activities, the second I keep clean for just wearing around town and lounging. I love how they are pretty heavy and thick, I feel just as comfortable relaxing on my sofa wearing socks as I do hiking around the back and side-country.
I love having side vents just like my winter gear and I find the additional front pockets very convenient for smaller items. The large side leg pockets are great for my phone, Leatherman or bag of dog treats. I have not found use for the elastic ankle cinches but I could see how they could be used while bushwhacking with tall boots.
When I first got them I took them out for a hike in a late season snowstorm, about a foot on the ground. I was quite impressed with how the snow simply shook off of them and did not saturate the material at all. I can see myself using them next winter a lot as I live in snow country.
I do think it is important to care for these pants and a particular way, I wash cold followed by stretching out the legs and air drying. This technique has kept them at basically the same length prior to my first wash. If you can size up you could probably get away with using a dryer on low temp however unfortunately for me sizing up was way too long.
Definitely recommend these pants for really anything: laying on the couch, looking cool or get after it in nature.
Went with 32x32 (could use 33”L)
